Cowgirls Hand Lady Choctaws Second Straight Loss, 58-57

ABILENE, TX - The Mississippi College women's basketball team lost for the second time this season with a 58-57 loss to Hardin-Simmons on Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Complex.  After opening the season 11-0, MC has dropped two games in a row.

MC took a 31-26 lead into the half after closing the period on a 7-0 run.  The Cowgirls would come back and take a 45-41 with 9:08 remaining in the game.  Senior Jalessa Taylor would knock down back-to-back jumpers to tie the game.

Jasmine Lewis of the Cowgirls would take over with eight straight points on break-away lay-ups to give HSU an 53-45 lead.  MC would answer with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead to two.  Whitney Enis of the Cowgirls would hit a three-pointer with 1:31 remaining to extend the HSU lead to five.

Hardin-Simmons would hold off a late charge from MC sa time expired to pick up the victory. 

The Lady Choctaws were led by Taylor with 22 points on 11-18 shooting from the floor.  Senior Jennifer Wair finished with 12 pionts and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Cowgirls were led by Lewis with 24 points on 9-18 shooting from the floor and 6-7 from the free throw line.  Angela and Lindsey Newcombe led HSU with 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Pineville, LA to face Louisiana College at 5:30 p.m.
