11 different players scored for Western Connecticut (9-1 Overall, 2-0 Little East) on Monday evening, and the Colonials defeated the Beavers of the City College of New York (1-9 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 84-32 at the Feldman Arena in Danbury, Connecticut. The loss for City College was its sixth straight as the team gets set to resume conference play on Wednesday night.

The Colonials sprinted out to a commanding 15-0 lead during the game's opening five minutes and eventually ballooned that lead up to 24-2 at the 12 minute mark of the opening session. Western Connecticut continued to build its advantage, eventually grabbing a 47-15 lead as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, CCNY's Simone Tharkur opened the session with a basket, but Western Connecticut continued to dominate the game after that, eventually opening up a 40-point lead, 61-21, with just over 14 minutes remaining in the contest. The Colonials continued to spread the wealth and keep all of their players involved, as Western Connecticut eventually went on for an impressive 52-point victory.

In the win for Western Connecticut, Karli Spera connected on all six of her attempts from the floor and also hit all three of her free throw attempts as she finished with 17 points and six assists in 23 minutes of action. Melissa Teel added a double-double, completing her night with 11 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and five blocked shots, and Stephanie Slonski and Heather Lee chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Despite the loss for the Beavers, Tharkur came off of the bench and contributed 12 points on the evening to go along with three rebounds, and speedy point guard Donika Rexhepi helped also with 11 points and eight rebounds.

For the game, the Colonials held a commanding 47-26 advantage in rebounds, a 31-5 edge in assists, and shot 51.5 percent from the floor while holding CCNY to just 24 percent.

The Beavers will return to action on Wednesday evening as CCNY will host the Hawks of Hunter College in a rematch of last year's CUNYAC quarterfinal round matchup, with start-time for the game scheduled for 5:00pm.
