Judges Slam the Gavel to the Lasers

NEWTON, MA-  Brandeis University distributed a balanced offense with 12 players contributing points en route to an 81-29 defeat of Lasell College in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night. 

 

Brandeis' leading scorer, junior guard Morgan Kendaw (Cotuit, MA) finished with a contest-best 16 points as the Judges extend a five-game winning streak.  Senior forward Amber Strodthoff (DePere, WI) recorded the only double-double of the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks and two steals.  Brandeis also received nine points from senior guard Mia DePalo (Rumson, NJ), who shot 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc, and eight points apiece from freshman guards Rebecca Raffler (Charlotte, NC) and Kasey Dean (Southbury, CT). 

 

For Lasell, freshman guard Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA) led offensively with 11 points.  Sophomore forward Kim Archibald (Lewiston, ME) chipped in with nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block and senior guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) matched five points with five assists.  

 

Brandeis shot 42.5% in the first half of the lopsided contest, while Lasell connected on just 22.2% of their attempts in the period.  The visitors took a commanding 14 point lead by the 13 minute mark, which stretched into a 21-point deficit by 8:09 after a DePalo trifecta.

 

The visitors enhanced their field goal percentage in the second half, shooting 47%, while the Lasers still struggled to find their touch.  The Judges nearly doubled the Lasers' efforts on the glass throughout the matchup, ripping down 64 rebounds to Lasell's 34.  

 

With the victory, Brandeis improves their overall record to 8-3.  Lasell drops to 1-8 in the defeat. 

 

Brandeis will host New York University in their University Athletic Association (UAA) conference opener on Saturday, January 8th at 1:00 p.m.   Lasell faces Little East Conference preseason favorite and national powerhouse Western Connecticut State University on the road Thursday, January 6th at 7:00 p.m.
