(Buffalo, NY) – The 20th ranked Medaille College women's basketball team continued its winning ways as they hosted St. John Fisher College this evening in the Sullivan Center.  A 22-2 run by the Lady Mavs to start the second half propelled them to an 82-67 victory over the Cardinals.

This was a game that saw the Lady Mavs starters dominate play, scoring all but eight of the teams points.  Junior Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) made a triumphant return to the starting lineup by scorching the nets.  She finished with a game high tying 23 points while knocking down nine of 16 shots from the floor.

Freshman Joelle Pollak (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) is playing like anything but a rookie as she had another spectacular outing.  She poured in 22 points, including knocking down four three pointers, she grabbed a game high 10 boards, dished out four assists and came up with three steals. Meanwhile fellow backcourt mate Kacie Mills (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) assisted on seven buckets for the second straight game.

This game had the makings of an upset early on as the visitors jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead.  However, the Lady Mavs began to chip away and knock down key shots en route to building an 11-point advantage with seven minutes to play in the opening half.  It looked as though St. John Fisher head to the locker room down by just four but when the buzzer sounded to end the half a foul was called with no time left on the clock and Kacie Mills knocked down both shots from the charity stripe to give Medaille a 37-31 halftime edge and steal some of the momentum from Fisher.

A real key to the victory for Medaille was their ability to take care of the ball and they continued to defend well.  They finished with just 12 turnovers while they forced St. John Fisher into 21 miscues.  Those things coupled with that huge run to open the second half, sealed the fate for the Cardinals.

The Lady Mavs have now won seven straight and are unbeaten in all five home games thus far.  They currently stand at 9-1 overall and will return to AMCC play on Wednesday (1/5) when they host Hilbert College for a 6:00pm tip-off.
