PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Johnson & Wales University used a balanced offensive effort Sunday afternoon, defeating Plymouth State University, 78-66, in a non-conference women's basketball game at Foley Gymnasium.

              The Wildcats got a team-high 15 points from senior Morgan Wilson (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) and 14 points and eight rebounds from sophomore Marina Millian (Chester, N.Y.) to lead four players who scored in double figures.  Sophomore Ayla Walter (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) added 13 points and classmate Chrissy Toth (Queens, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 as JWU snapped a six-game losing skid and improved to 2-6 overall.

              The outcome spoiled an outstanding performance by PSU junior Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central), who tossed in a career-high 34 points and collected nine rebounds.  She made 12-of-25 shots from the floor and 10-of-18 from the free throw line. Sophomore Colleen O'Hara (Otego, N.Y.) added 13 points for the Panthers, the only other player to score in double figures.  Except for Doucet, the rest of the PSU team shot just 18 percent from the field (10-of-55).

              The home team started out strong, leading by seven points in the early going (9-2) and maintaining the lead for most of the first half.  JWU took its first lead with three minutes to go in the opening stanza, but PSU took a 27-25 lead into the locker room.

              JWU started to pull away in the second half, going up by six points (38-32) with 15 minutes remaining, but PSU answered and took a 43-42 advantage with 11 minutes to play. That ended up as the final Panther lead, as the Wildcats went on a 15-5 run over the next three minutes to open up a nine-point advantage (57-48) with eight minute left.  PSU got as close as two points (57-55) with 6:45 on the clock, but JWU never relinquished the lead the won going away.

              Plymouth State out-rebounded Johnson & Wales, 63-42, with the Panthers collecting 39 offensive boards, but PSU shot 1-for-13 from three-point range in the first half and 2-for-12 from beyond the arc after the break, combining for just 12 percent (3-for-25) as a team.  The home team also made just 19-of-36 (52.8 percent) from the free throw line.

              PSU, 7-3 overall, is home again on Thursday, hosting the University of Maine Farmington at 4:00 p.m.  JWU hosts Framingham State Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
