Spartan Women Upend Wilmington at Juniata Holiday Classic

HUNTINGDON, PA – Senior forward Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) scored a game and season-high 21 points as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team defeated Wilmington College, 61-53, on the final day (Thursday, December 30) of the 2010 Juniata College (PA) Holiday Classic at Memorial Gymnasium.

With the win, the Spartans evened their record at 5-5. Wilmington dropped to 4-7 with the loss.
Henry was 10-of-11 from the foul line and totaled five rebounds with a season-high five steals. In addition, junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) recorded her second straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilmington was led by Olivia Waters with 16 points and a game-best 13 boards.

The Spartans led 9-6 early after sophomore forward Marissa Miles (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) hit a jumper at the 15:07 mark, but Wilmington answered with eight straight and led 14-9 following a LeAnn Topp layup at 13:42. Case chipped away at the deficit and regained the lead at 17-16 on two Henry free throws with 4:43 left in the period, but the Quakers were able to end the half on a 7-4 run to lead 23-21.

Case opened the second period on a 22-9 run and led 43-32 when sophomore guard Evy Iacono (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) canned a jumper with 11:36 left to play. The Spartan lead grew to a high of 13, at 49-36, when Hollinger hit a layup at 8:10.

Case's lead hovered just below double-digits and never dipped below four points during the duration of the half.

For the game, Case forced 26 turnovers, while only committing 14, and connected on 20-of-23 (87 percent) free throws compared to Wilmington's 12-of-12.  

The Spartans are back in action at home for the first time in a month when they wrap up their non-conference slate on Tuesday, January 4 versus Hiram College. Tip-off from Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland is set for 7:00 p.m.
