SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Liz Wade became the all-time steals leader as the Saint Mary's basketball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson at Florham 86-58 at the Surf 'N Slam Tournament on Wednesday.

Saint Mary's came out of the gate to out-score Fairleigh Dickinson at Florham 11-0 in the first five minutes of the game. The Devils got back within seven points in the first half, but the Belles were able to regain a double-digit lead and never looked back in the 28-point victory.

The Belles held advantages in scoring over the Devils in points off of turnovers (21-12), second chance points (12-7), and bench scoring (35-12). Once again, free throws were key for Saint Mary's as the Belles hit 26-of-36 (72.2%) shots from the line to the Devils' 11-of-19 (57.9%). On the season, Saint Mary's has made 294 trips to the charity stripe to their opponents' 173 free throw attempts.

Liz Wade surpassed Jennie Taubenheim's career steals record of 274 set at the conclusion of the 1996 season. The senior point guard currently has 277 career steals. Moreover, she has collected at least one steal in 85 of the 91 games she has played in her career.

Four Belles had double-digit scoring efforts in the highest point total of the season so far for Saint Mary's. Patsy Mahoney had a game-high 18 points and was perfect from the charity stripe as she connected on all six attempts. Annie Doyle set a new career-high for points with 13 while Jessica Centa also notched 13 points for the Belles. Kelley Murphy added her sixth double-double of the season as she had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Belles await the outcome of the nightcap in San Diego to find out their opponent in the Surf 'N Slam Tournament, which will conclude tomorrow.
