Ewing, N.J. – Marymount University's women's basketball team evened its overall record with a 44-42 victory over The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night.  The Saints have won four of their last five games and move to 4-4 on the season.

Seniors Amanda Billy, Maame Amponsah and Beth Wiggins paced MU on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.  Billy led all players with 21 points and added six rebounds while Amponsah posted her eighth-straight double-double with 12 points and a stellar 20 rebounds.  Wiggins had another solid all-around game, pulling down 10 rebounds to go with seven assists, six points and three blocked shots.

Neither team shot particularly well in the game with the Saints hitting just 34 percent of their shots and the Lions converting just over 25 percent from the floor.  Marymount was hot from downtown though, going 6-of-13 from three-point range including a 6-for-11 performance from Billy.

Nailing four trifectas in the opening frame, Billy hit number four with 21 seconds to go in the half to take a 24-17 lead going into halftime.

The Saints would push their lead to nine at the opening of the second stanza on a Julie Tomesheski jumper before TCNJ would respond with a 9-0 run to tie things up three minutes later.  Trading leads, the Lions went up by as many as five at the 7:38 mark before a 6-0 MU run retook the lead for good.

Down two with three seconds to play, TCNJ had one last shot to tie or win the game but Jessica Hopkins squashed the Lions' hopes by stealing the inbounds pass to seal the victory.

Jessica Imhof and Alexandra Gregorek led the Lions with 12 points each.

Marymount returns to action to open the New Year at the CUA/Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament.  The Saints battle Manhattanville on January 1 before taking on either Staten Island or host Catholic in the finals a day later.
