Lady Hawks Open GSAC Play with 67-64 Win Against Salem

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Huntingdon College women's basketball team beat Salem College in its Great South Athletic Conference opener on Saturday evening in Roland Arena. Huntingdon trailed 29-26 at the break, but responded by outscoring the Spirits 41-35.

In the second half, the Lady Hawks' hit 11-of-22 (50 percent) of its shots and took the lead from a Ashton Salter's three-pointer. Salter's score put Huntingdon up 43-41 with 11:57 left in the game, and the Lady Hawks never gave up the lead for the victory.

Senior Ashton Salter led the team with 20 points and nine rebounds. LaTerial Williams added 13 points and five assists, followed by Whitney Toole and LaTarial Williams each with nine points in the win.

Despite the loss, Salem held a 45-41 advantage on the glass. The Spirits converted 33.9 percent of its shots, hitting 21-of-62, while the Lady Hawks finished 18-of-49 (36.7 percent).

Salem (1-4, GSAC 0-2) was led by JoJo Hall with 24 points and 6 rebounds, followed by Kelsey Rector's 18 points in the loss.

The Lady Hawks' (2-1, GSAC 1-0) next game is against Covenant College on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Lookout Mountain, Ga.. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
