Olivet College women’s basketball team falls to Albion, 56-38

The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 56-38, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

In the first half, Olivet led by as many as eight points, 16-8, at the 12:21 mark after senior Stephanie Spehar (South Lyon) drained a three-pointer. The Britons answered with an 8-0 run to knot the score at 16-16 with 8:09 left. After the Comets regained the lead at 20-18, Albion ended the half on a 13-2 run to take a 31-22 lead at the break. Olivet briefly got its deficit down to single digits in the first three minutes of the second half, but it would not get any closer.

Junior Debbie Nikodemski (Rockford) was the only Comet in double figures with 12 points. Junior Alysia Cole (Roseville) was next with eight points. Cole, Nikodemski and sophomore Kati Stickney (Union City) each grabbed five rebounds.

For the Britons, Autumn Haggadone scored a team-leading 12 points. Petty Rewa contributed 10 points. Madeline Winters pulled down a game-high six rebounds.

The Comets will play their final game before Christmas on Saturday when they travel for a 1 p.m. CT game at University of Chicago.
