WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University snapped its three-game women's basketball losing streak Saturday afternoon with a 76-68 non-league victory over Eastern Mennonite.

The win for SU (3-6) over future ODAC foe Eastern Mennonite (4-5) also gives the Hornets a 2-0 mark this season against ODAC schools.

Shenandoah opened up the 2010-11 season with a 57-36 victory over Lynchburg.

After EMU opened the game with the first five points of the contest, the two teams traded the lead five times and were tied six other times before SU finished the first half on an 11-4 run to take a 38-31 lead at the break.

The first points of this spurt, a Haley Smith bucket in the paint, ended up giving the hosts the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Eastern Mennonite could get no closer than its seven-point halftime deficit, as SU scored seven of the first 10 points of the second half and after a Sam Akers layup in the paint with 11:34 remaining, kept the lead in double-digits until the final 11 seconds of the contest.

Senior Sierra Edwards paced the Hornets to the victory with 25 points while Smith added 18. The two women were a combined 17 for 30 from the field and also contributed 11 of the team's 35 rebounds.

SU shot 52.5 percent from the field and scored half of its points in the paint.

Danielle Rittenhouse had 17 points for the visitors.

Shenandoah completes its first semester slate on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with a non-conference game against Frostburg State.
