Nazareth downs Hilbert, 68-40

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Junior Ashley Gallagher made seven of eight shots from the field for a game-high 14 points Friday as Nazareth dominated host Hilbert in a non-conference women's basketball game with a 68-40 victory.

Nazareth never trailed in the game while improving its overall record to 4-5. Hilbert is 1-8. The Golden Flyers have a home game Dec. 31 against Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m. before embarking on their second-semester schedule.

The Golden Flyers raced to a 22-3 lead before the game was 10 minutes old. Junior Brittany Wilson scored six points during the early surge, while Gallagher and Brittany TallChief each made two baskets.

Nazareth was never seriously challenged thereafter and settled for a 37-13 lead at halftime. Gallagher had 10 of her points and five of her six rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Overall, Nazareth made 17 of 35 first-half shots (48.6 percent) in the half.

Nazareth substituted freely in the second half. Freshman Megan Morrison hit a pair of three-point shots and scored all of her career-best eight points in the second half. Senior Mary Holland and TallChief each finished with seven points. Sophomore guard Jenee Vanderstyne did not score, but passed for a career-best seven assists.

Julie Bossard paced Hilbert with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
