B-W Women Lose to No.2-Ranked Hope (Mich.), 72-45, in Championship Game of Hope Tourney

BEREA, OHIO --  All-American center Carrie Snikkers scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the host and No.2-ranked Hope College of Michigan women's basketball team defeated Baldwin-Wallace College, 72-45, today (Saturday, November 20, 2010) in the Championship Game of the Hope Tip-Off Classic in the DeVos Center in Holland, Michigan.

Despite the loss, B-W, now 2-1 overall, was led by senior 2-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard/ forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) scored a team-high 15 points.  Her 15 markers now gives her 1,017 career points and moves her into the Top-10 all-time in school history.  Today, she surpassed both Kim Luthman (1997-2001), who had 1,002 points and Jen Nance (1997-2001), who had 1,106 points. Unfortunately, Schroeder was the only B-W player in double digits. 
For Hope, now 3-0 overall, and in addition to Snikkers, junior guard Maddie Burnett had 12 points.

In the first half, B-W jumped out to a 3-2 lead at the 19:33 mark when Schroeder buried a three-pointer. Hope then went on a 8-0 run to take a 10-3 advantage at the 16:33 mark when senior forward Erika Bruinsma made a jump shot.


The Yellow Jackets then outscored the Dutch 8-4 to close to within 14-11 with 12:04 left in the stanza when Schroeder made a jump shot. Hope then went on a 15-7 run to build its lead at 29-18 with 5:00 left when Snikkers made one-of-two foul shots.  Hope's lead grew to 17 points, at 37-20, with 1:10 left before the intermission when junior guard Maddie Burnett canned a three-pointer.  The score remained 37-20 in Hope's favor at halftime.


In the second half, Hope built its largest lead of the game at 19 points when Bruinsma canned a pair of foul shots at the 18:19 mark for a 41-22 advantage. B-W battled right back and cut the Dutch lead to 12 points at 43-31 with 15:14 left in the game when senior guard Ali Stack (Vermilion/ Firelands) canned a pair of foul shots of her own.


Undaunted, the Dutch scored the next seven points to rebuild their lead back to 19 points, at 50-31, with 13:37 left when Burnett canned a jumper.  Hope's lead grew to as many as 27 points, at 72-45, with 1:31 left when sophomore forward Ashley Bauman made a jump shot.  Schroeder moved into the Top-10 all-time Yellow Jacket scorers at the 9:55 mark when she canned a pair of foul shots.


Schroeder and sophomore guard Olivia Frech (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) were both named to the All-Tournament team.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 23 when they travel to University Circle to play Cleveland cross-town and non-legaue rival Case Western Reserve University in  Horsburgh Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
