Pioneer Women Fall to Visiting Yellow Jackets

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team fell 73-48 to visiting Baldwin-Wallace College Wednesday (Dec 15) night inside Ban Johnson Arena. The loss drops Marietta's record to 4-4 overall on the year and 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Baldwin-Wallace improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. [Box Score]

The Yellow Jackets jumped out early and outscored the Pioneers 20-4 over the first 9:28 of the opening half. Baldwin-Wallace slowly extended its advantage during the rest of the first stanza and led 47-22 at intermission. The Pioneers matched the Yellow Jackets with 26 points on the second half scoreboard but could not overcome their slow start. The Jackets who shot 36.8% (25-of-68) from the field, 41.2% (7-of-17) from three and 69.6% (16-of-23) from the free throw line, went on to win comfortably 73-48.

Sophomore post Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) was the only Marietta player to score in double figures. She finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Senior post Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier) added six points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore wing Kristeva Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) added five points, four rebounds and three blocks on the night.

Megan Frisina and Kristen Troyer paced Baldwin-Wallace with 13 points each. Amanda Schroeder and Jessica Carpenter both scored 11 points with Schroeder leading the team with nine rebounds in the victory

The Pioneers finished the night shooting 36.2% (21-of-58) from the field, 28.6% (2-of-7) from three and 57.1% (4-of-7) from the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets held the edge on the glass 46-40 and committed 12 turnovers to Marietta's 24.

The Lady Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Dec. 18) afternoon at Ohio Northern University. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
