DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College's superlative second-half defense allowed it to pull away and defeat Knox College 63-38 in a Midwest Conference affair at Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights, who have won their last 28 regular-season home games, improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the MWC. Knox, which is 0-26 all-time against St. Norbert, fell to 2-5, 1-3.
St. Norbert slogged its way to a 30-23 halftime lead. The Green Knights led 28-12 with 7 minutes 32 seconds left in the half but only scored a pair of free throws the rest of the period.
Knox got to within 32-26 on a Kristin McDonald free throw wtih 17:56 to go, but St. Norbert went on a 12-0 run to put the game away. Krista Pelky had a 3-pointer and Krista Hawkinson a conventional three-point play during the spurt.
Knox shot just 4-for-20 from the floor in the second half to score just 15 second-half points. The Prairie Fire made 30 percent (12-for-40) on its field goals and had 26 turnovers to three assists. Jenny Haskell and Kelly Ricketts each had eight points.
St. Norbert, which had four starters in double figures, was 24-for-61 (39.3 percent) from the floor. Erin Baganz led St. Norbert with 14 points. Pelky, Amy Brunner and Stefanie Bunday all had 10 points apiece.
