Fredericksburg, Va. – Senior guard Amanda Billy's three-pointer as time expired lifted the Marymount University women's basketball team to a 53-52 victory over rival Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  In a rematch of the 2010 CAC Tournament Championship, the Saints once again came out on top and moved into second place of the conference standings with a showdown looming against league-leader St. Mary's (Md.) to open the New Year.

Billy scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Saints (3-4, 3-1 CAC).  Fellow senior Maame Amponsah added 15 points to go with a game-best 15 rebounds for her seventh-straight double-double while junior Jackie Bohenek added 10 points.

A back-and-forth first half saw eight ties and lead changes over the first 15 minutes of action.  The Eagles (4-3, 2-1 CAC) would close out the frame on a 7-0 run to take a 25-16 advantage into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Mary Washington pushed its lead to as many as 10 before the Saints began their comeback.  A 13-1 run by MU over the next three minutes knotted the score and gave MU the lead on back-to-back layups by Amponsah.

Trading leads once again, the Saints would go up by as many as seven at 48-41 behind an 8-0 run capped by a Billy three at the 6:10 mark.  Mounting a comeback of its own, UMW held Marymount without a field goal the rest of the game until Billy's buzzer-beater, taking a two point lead with 38 seconds remaining.

Rachel Martin led the Eagles with 15 points, the lone UMW player to score in double-figures.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday, December 22, at The College of New Jersey in non-conference play.
