Greensboro, N.C. (12/9/10) -- Guilford used a strong defensive effort in the second half and dealt Averett its first loss of the season, 51-41. Gabby Oglesby paced the Quakers with 14 points and team highs with seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Jazlyn Gibbs once again led Guilford in scoring pouring in a game-high 20 points to go along with her four rebounds and two steals.

The Quakers (5-3) came out of the blocks slow to start the first half trailing the Cougars, 7-0, six minutes into the game before an Oglesby bucket started a 17-8 run capped a Gibbs three-pointer. Averett would retake the lead briefly before the period ended with Guilford ahead, 24-23.

Averett's (4-1) Ashley Washington sparked a 9-2 run to start the second half, but timely buckets by the Oglesby, Gibbs and and Taylor Ballad kept the game close for the Guilford. Ballard put the Quakers up for good with a layup at the 9:41 mark of the second half.

Washington led the Cougars with a team-high 11 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. She was joined by Mette Scheiman's nine points and Kaneshia Slade's six rebounds and four steals. Guilford held Averett to 18 second-half points and 24 percent field-goal shooting for the game. The Quakers shot 35 percent from the field and converted on 15-of-18 free throws.

The Quakers, who are off until the spring semester begins, return to action Jan. 4 against Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Hollins University at 7:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
