Yellowjackets Fall In OT

More news about: UW-Superior

It was déjà vu for the Yellowjacket women's basketball team on Wednesday. They went on the road, traveling to Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn., and again played a tight game that could have gone either way.  Unfortunately, it ended the same way things did in Platteville, only the margin was much slimmer.

Tanya Dickey hit a pair of free throws with 1:07 remaining in overtime, giving Northwestern an 81-80 win over the Yellowjackets.

The duo of Connie Urmanski (Edgar, Wis.) and Hailey Hart (Osseo, Wis.) were dynamic in the scoring department, accounting for half of the Yellowjacket offense, as they scored 26 and 21 points respectively.  In total four Yellowjackets scored in double figures.  For Northwestern, their depth truly showed as their bench outscored the Yellowjackets 24-2 in the game.

The Yellowjackets led by as many as eight points in the first half, shooting 53.3% from the field and going 3-5 from three-point range.  Urmanski scored 12 points while Hart dropped in ten.  The second half was more of the same, with Urmanski and Hart leading the way.  Northwestern, however, turned up the offense, shooting 53.6% from the field and hitting 5-9 three-pointers after halftime.

In addition to her 21 points, Hart was a monster on the boards, pulling down a game-high 17 rebounds.  Kelsey Thingvold (Crystal, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with seven assists and five steals.

Katie DeWitt led Northwestern with 28 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.
