Oswego State Women's Basketball Falls to Nationally-Ranked Rochester 69-36

The Oswego State women's basketball team was unable to keep up with the offensive firepower of 11th-ranked University of Rochester, as it suffered its first loss of the season, 69-36, Wednesday night in Oswego. The win boosted the Yellowjackets to 7-1, while the loss dropped the Lakers to 5-1. 

 

Rochester started the game shooting a sizzling 6-for-8 from distance to create a 42-22 halftime advantage. Melissa Altwardt led the Yellowjackets in first-half scoring with nine points on three treys. Rochester shot 55 percent, while the Lakers were able to connect with only 35 percent of their shots in the first stanza.

 

A game after registering its season-high field goal percentage (47 percent) against Buffalo State, Oswego State shot a season-low 27 percent against the Yellowjackets. The only player to reach double figures for the Lakers was Colleen McCready, who finished with 10 points. 

 

Jodie Luther led Rochester in scoring with 16 points, while Alwardt and Kristyn Wright chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. 

 

Despite the loss, the Lakers complete an impressive early-season schedule that leaves them undefeated at 2-0 in conference play heading into the Spring semester. Oswego State returns to action Dec. 21 when it  plays Salve Regina in the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout.
