The City College of New York women's basketball team (1-6 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC) dropped its third consecutive game, falling to the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology (4-1 Overall, 0-0 Empire 8) by a score of 90-31 Sunday afternoon at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ.

Leading the way for the Ducks in their victory was freshman Avis Benjamin as she scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with three rebounds and a pair of steals. Junior Jillian Barrett hit on six of her 10 attempts, totaling 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and junior Isaura Guzman and center Paige Armstrong each added 11 points, with the two players combining to pull down 15 boards. Junior Dawn Garcia had eight points and four steals in the win, while senior Victoria Webber and freshman Lisa Tessitore finished with six points apiece.

Despite the loss for the Beavers of the City College of New York, sophomore Taryn VanEsselstyn scored a team-high 10 points, connecting on four of her eight attempts from the floor, guard Sajidah Pressley added eight points.

Stevens opened the game on a 10-2 run over the first five minutes of action, taking an eight point lead on a Barrett layup at 16:01. A pair of Webber free-throws upped the margin to 10 before a Benjamin jumper gave Stevens a 14-2 edge at 11:49. Junior guard Donika Rexhepi would connect on a jumper to reduce her team's deficit to 10 points – ending nearly a seven minute scoring drought for CCNY. From there, though, Stevens Institute of Technology would go on a 10-0 run over the ensuing 4:30 to balloon their lead to 20 points, at 24-4.

Still up 20 with 6:52 remaining in the first session, the Ducks closed out the half strong, mounting a 15-5 run to take a 30-point lead as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime. The Ducks hit on 50 percent of their attempts (18-36) in the first half while the Beavers shot just 22.7 percent in the game's first 20 minutes (5-22).

In the second half, the Ducks would pick up right where they left off in the first stanza, putting together an impressive 22-8 run over the opening 10 minutes of the session to increase their advantage to 43 points at 63-19.

Stevens would continue to go on the offensive to start the second, putting together a 22-8 run over the first 10 minutes to take a commanding 63-19 lead. Webber kicked off the run with a jumper on the Ducks first possession, before five straight Molly Spodaro points followed by a Barrett three, an Armstrong layup, and Guzman triple made it a 39-point contest. Garcia then netted four-consecutive points before a pair of Benjamin free-throws gave Stevens a 63-19 edge. The Ducks would then outscore CCNY 24-7 over the next eight and a half minutes, taking a 61-point advantage.

The Ducks shot 53.8 percent (35-for-65) for the game, including a 58.6 percent clip (17-for-29) in the second half, while holding CCNY to just 11-of-43 shooting (25.6 percent) for the contest. Stevens out-rebounded the Beavers 46-22 and netted 15 points off of 27 CCNY miscues.

The Beavers will return to action on Thursday evening as CCNY will battle USMMA King's Point in a non-conference contest at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, with start-time scheduled for 6:00pm.
