Wolter, Ole women use late surge to upend 19th-ranked Saint Ben's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - Mackenzie Wolter had 19 points, including nine in the final nine minutes, as visiting St. Olaf overcame a 17-point halftime deficit to defeat 19th-ranked College of Saint Benedict 62-61 in a MIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

The victory over Saint Ben's was the first for St. Olaf since January 25, 1992, spanning 36 games.

Wolter's final bucket, a driving lay up with 1:55 left, gave the Oles their biggest lead of the night at 60-55, capping a 15-0 run. She went 3-for-6 from the arc and 8-for-12 from the field.

Sam Zopfi added 10 points, all in the second half, for the Oles (4-1, 1-1 MIAC).

The Blazers (4-1, 1-1 MIAC) were led by Amy Stifter's 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting. Stifter was a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range and nailed one with 1:46 left to cut the Oles' lead to two. After a Brittany Webber bucket, the Blazers' Morgan Dale cut the advantage to one with a three with 54 seconds left.

In the final minute, St. Olaf turned the ball over twice and missed the front end of a one-and-one but stopped Saint Ben's twice to secure the win.

St. Olaf hosts Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
