Williamstown, Mass. – Junior guard Sarah Wetmore (Sudbury, Mass.) scored 20 points and added ten rebounds for a double-double, leading the Rensselaer Polytech Institute Engineers to a 71-68 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the Williams College Classic today.  Trinity falls to 5-2 with the loss while the Engineers improve to 2-3.

The Bantams opened the game by jumping out to a 24-11 lead over the Engineers, but Rensselaer stormed back, closing the half on a 27-13 run to take a 38-37 lead at the half.  The teams battled back and forth until the 15:09 mark in the second half, when Wetmore tied the game at 47-47, stealing the lead from Trinity for the last time.

Despite grabbing a lead soon after, Rensselaer would give themselves very little breathing space the rest of the way, and with the score at 69-65, senior Rebecca Cohn (San Francisco, Calif.) made a basket and hit a free throw after being fouled on the play, bringing the Bantams within a point, 69-68, with :08 seconds on the clock.  Trinity fouled and would get the ball back with a chance to tie the game on a three-pointer, but Rensselaer junior Lauren Hayes (Rensselaer, N.Y.) came up with a steal to ice the win for the Engineers.

Trinity senior tri-captain guard Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) hit 4 of 5 three-pointers, finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists to lead the Bantams, while junior guards Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) also scored 16 points, and added two rebounds.
