JERSEY CITY, N.J. (12/4/10) – Junior forward Tiffany Patrick scored a game-high 17 points and became the 17th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, as the Kean University women's basketball team defeated host New Jersey City University, 96-26, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
In the victory, all 14 Cougars played at least four minutes, with 13 of them scoring at least one point for fourth-ranked Kean (6-0, 2-0 NJAC).
For the Gothic Knights (1-5, 0-2 NJAC), Maria Suarez came off the bench to score a team-high eight points.
The Cougars closed out the final three minutes of the first half on a 15-0 run to build a 49-14 lead at the break, as the Cougar defense forced NJCU into just 25 percent (6-of-24) shooting and 17 turnovers.
Patrick (pictured left) scored 15 of her points in the opening half, while rookie Emily Cristaldi added all 13 of her points in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Kean scored the first seven points of the second half and Patrick would give the Cougars a 65-18 lead with the milestone bucket with 13:54 remaining in the game.
Over the final 12:18 of the game, the Cougars held NJCU to just six points, as they were able to push the lead out to 70 points at the final buzzer for their largest win of the season. The 96 points scored by the team was also a season-high.
Patrick, who now has 1,001 career points, added eight rebounds and three steals, while Cristaldi chipped in with two assists and five steals. Junior forward Briana Winston came off the bench to score a season-high 12 points and grab a game-high nine rebounds.
The Cougars host DeSales University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, December 8th at 7 p.m.
