Williams records LaGrange College's first triple double

LaGRANGE, Ga. - LaGrange College downed Covenant College 81-54 on Wednesday at Mariotti Gym. The Panthers stayed unbeaten in raising their record to 4-0.

Junior guard Elizabeth Williams recorded the school's first triple double to lead the Panthers. She had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Williams set a career-high for rebounds and tied her school record for assists in a game.

Heather Miller and Katie Covington each 14 points to lead the Panthers. Covington had her streak of double-doubles stopped at three.

Margaret Cross had a game-high 20 points for Covenant (0-4). Cross helped the Lady Scots take a 34-33 halftime lead. The Lady Scots hit 6-of-11 3-point attempts in the half.

Leading 40-38 in the second half, the Panthers put the game away with a seven-minute run. During the span, the Panthers outscored the Lady Scots 25-3 to open up a 65-41 lead with nine minutes left in the game.

Williams finished the run with a steal and a layup at the other end. Covenant never got closer than 20 points the rest of the way.

The Panthers held the Lady Scots to 24.1 percent shooting in the second half, including 1-for-9 from 3-point range. The Panthers shot 45.9 percent in the second half and made 4-of-8 from 3-point range.

The Panthers play at Wesleyan on Thursday in a GSAC game. They host Salem on Sunday in another GSAC game.
