DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Shaleah Alston scored 21 of her game-high 23 points in the first half to lead FDU-Florham to an 84-50 victory over host Delaware Valley College in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.

Delaware Valley (3-3, 0-1) jumped out to a quick 9-3 advantage, but Alston responded with back-to-back treys to tie the game. The game was still tied at 16-16 when FDU-Florham (4-1, 1-0) scored five straight for to take the lead for good. Later in the half, the Devils used a14-4 spurt, including six by Melissa DeHass and five by Alston, to built a 13-point lead and they eventually took a 44-31 advantage into the intermission. Alston was 5-for-10 from the field (4-for-8 from 3-point land) and 7-for-8 from the foul line in the opening 20 minutes.

Alston managed just two points the rest of the way, but her teammates helped the Devils outscore the Aggies, 40-19, in the second half. They finished the contest with a 55-33 advantage on the boards and forced 30 Delaware Valley turnovers. DeHass came off the bench to notch 15 points and nine re bounds while Kandace Johnson added 14 points and seven boards.

Emily Soper tallied 18 points, six rebounds and six blocks for the Aggies. Brittany Battinieri and Sarah Innerst had 10 and eight points respectively while Jackie Shunkwiler finished with seven points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
