PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The 11th-ranked Mount Union's women's basketball team survived a game effort by Union (N.Y.) to claim a 61-49 decision on Saturday in a Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational semifinal at St. John Fisher (N.Y.).

Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) led the Purple Raiders with 17 points and nine rebounds while Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) chipped in with 13 points.

Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) added 12 points and six rebounds to the Mount Union effort. Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) grabbed seven rebounds.

Mount Union twice trailed by seven points. With 6:39 left in the first half, the Raiders were down, 24-17, before going on a seven-point run. Crider buried a trey during the stretch.

Facing a 31-28 deficit, the Raiders bridged a 10-point run across both periods to take a 38-31 advantage early in the second half.

Erin Schmidt put in a layup and Wiedt nailed a three-pointer, sending the Raiders into halftime with a 33-31 lead. LaMattina then opened the second with a three and Wiedt followed with a layup.

The Dutchwomen (0-1) pulled even for the final time with 10:38 left in the contests when Amy Loya hit a three-pointer.

Mount Union then answered with eight straight points, including back-to-back three-pointers by LaMattina.

Union trimmed its deficit to three on two occasions during the final minutes.

Leading 52-49 with 2:56 remaining, the Raiders finished off the game with a nine-point run, led by five points from Crider.

Union's top performer was Lauren McCormick, who finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Raiders (2-0) will play in the tournament's championship game on Sunday. They are scheduled to take on host St. John Fisher, which defeated D'Youville, 75-60, on Saturday.
