PORTLAND, Ore. – It was a disappointing night for the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team, who looked poised to earn a non-conference victory over the Warner Pacific Knights, as the Pioneers fell 74-73 in the final second of the contest on Monday night at C.C. Perry Gym.

For the third consecutive game, Kristina Williams ended the game in double-digits in scoring, this time putting up 19 points in the Pio loss. Williams finished 7-of-8 from the free throw line, making her 25-29 from the charity stripe this season. The sophomore guard also led the Pios in rebounds and steals, pulling down seven boards and earning two takeaways. Senior Christina Herring finished the night with 14 points and five rebounds, while Megan Spence and Sara Villanueva each netted nine points.

Cameryn Calhoun led the Knights with a game-high 20 points and six assists, while Miranda Holenstein finished with 13 points. Kelsey Mattsen and Layne Tucker added 13 and 12 points respectively.

The game proved to be a tale of two halves, with the Pioneers controlling things throughout the majority of the first half. The Knights did not convert a field goal until the 15:46 mark, helping the Pioneers run up a 41-32 lead heading into the break.

The Pioneers opened the second half on a roll, keeping Warner Pacific at bay by stretching their lead to 12 points on five different occasions. With five minutes remaining in the contest something snapped within the Knights and they went on a 24-11 run down the stretch. In the closing moments the two teams swapped fouls, eventually allowing the Knights to earn a slim one point victory off of free throws.

Lewis & Clark opens Northwest Conference action on Friday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Pamplin Sports Complex when they host the Whitworth Pirates.
