The Millikin women's basketball team lost in overtime at home at Wisconsin-Platteville 70-64 on November 30. Millikin is 2-3 while Platteville goes to 3-4.
Millikin suffered a cold shooting night and trailed for most of the game. The Big Blue used a furious rally late in the game to send it to overtime. The Pioneers led 53-41 win three minutes left to play. Millikin then outscored the Pioneers 16-4 in the final three minutes to force the overtime.
Millikin tied the game at 53-53 on a layup by Elise Wildman. Platteville then answered with a basket by Ashley Henry to go up by two. After the two teams exchanged free throws, Wisconsin-Platteville was up 57-54 in the closing seconds. The Big Blue's Cecily Aldridge hit a basket and was fouled with point one seconds left on the clock. Aldridge hit the free throw to send the game to overtime.
Platteville never trailed in the overtime period outscoring Millikin 13-7.
Millikin battled cold shooting from every spot on the floor all night long. Millikin shot 32.5 percent from the field, 14 percent from three point range and 50 percent from the free throw line.
Wisconsin-Platteville hit on 37 percent of its shots including 36 percent from three point range.
The Pioneers outrebounded Millikin 55 to 49. Millikin had 21 turnovers while Platteville had 20.
Wildman had a double double for Millikin with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Aldridge had 19 points and eight rebounds.
Wisconsin-Platteville got 14 points from Liz Lawinger and 13 from Ashley Callahan. Henry had a team high 13 rebounds and Lawinger had 11 boards.
Millikin is off until Dec. 8 when they host DePauw University at 7:30 p.m.
