Pioneers fall to Lions in first round of 26th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot

MARIETTA, Ohio -- Shelby Sparks scored a game-high 20 points and the Lions took advantage of 33 Pioneer turnovers to advance to the championship game of the 26th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament, sponsored by Dixie Sporting Goods, the Hampton Inn, Microtel Inn & Suites and Papa John's Pizza, Saturday (Nov. 27) evening.

Penn State-Beaver (3-2) had two other players—Jasmine Green and Heather Sandusky—joined Sparks in double-figures, scoring 17 point and 11 points, respectively. Taylor Fulton also contributed a game-high six assists for the Lions, who shot 44.0%

Sophomore Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) paced Marietta (2-2) with 17 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Freshman Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) scored a team-best 18 points and dished out four assists. Senior Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier) added eight points and 11 boards for the Pioneers, who shot 40.4% (21-of-52) and out rebounded the Lions 39-25.

Penn State-Beaver led 27-22 at the break. Marietta regained the lead 46-45 with 7:12 to play in the game, but 13-2 run over the next 3:52 helped the Lions take back control of the game and allowed them to coast to the 68-56 win.
