GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The York College women's basketball team fell Sunday afternoon to #16 Gettysburg 75-56 in Gettysburg, Pa. The Spartans fall to 3-2 on the young season while the talented Bullet squad improves to 3-1.

Caitlin Moser led the hosts with 13 points on an efficient 5-for-6 shooting in addition to a 3-for-3 effort from the free throw line. Three more Bullets tallied double-figures in the scoring column as Julie McGrory, Rianna Doane, and Mary Spicer posted 12, 11, and 10, respectively.

It would be point guard Spicer who proved the main catalyst for the home squad. In addition to her ten points, the senior registered eight assists, six rebounds, and two steals as she efficiently ran the Gettysburg offense throughout the contest.

Despite Gettysburg owning a 32-22 advantage at the break, the Spartans showed renewed life and a glimmer of hope at the beginning of the second frame. Over the first 3:44 of the latter half, the Green and White slashed the Bullet lead to six on three different occasions. It took only 1:27 to get to within six the first time at 34-28, as Kelsey Murphy, Kristen Haley, and Jaimie Sapp combined for York's opening six points of the stanza.

However, each time the Spartans cut the Gettysburg advantage, the home squad would answer. York would not get any closer than six points as after the third time, the hosts began to pull away.

After York's initial burst, the Bullets responded and quickly stretched their lead reaching a high of 24 at 61-37 with 8:15 to play in the game. Gettysburg coasted from there, securing the final 75-56 non-conference result.

For the Spartans, Haley led all scorers with 17 on 7-for-11 shooting. She also pulled down seven rebounds, recorded three steals, and notched two blocks over her 27 minutes. Murphy was the second Spartan in double-digits as she totaled 12 on the afternoon.

For the game, Gettysburg shot 46.3% from the floor on 25-for-54 shooting while York came in at 36.1% on a 22-for-61 effort.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, December 1, when they open their 2010-2011 Capital Athletic Conference slate at home against Wesley. York tips off with the Wolverines from the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center at 6:00 pm.
