PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Gabby Allen (Milwaukee/Bay View) scored on a fast break layup to open up the scoring for Alverno in the second half and became just the second player in Alverno history to score 1,000 career points.

However the Inferno (1-4, 0-1 NAC) could not overcome a 15-point halftime deficit, as host Lakeland College (3-1, 1-0) came away with a 67-57 victory in the teams' Northern Athletics Conference opener in Plymouth, Wis.

Allen, a senior guard, finished with a game-high 20 points putting her career total at 1,013 points.

"I'm certainly proud of Gabby's accomplishment," Alverno head coach Brad Duckworth said. "She's had a great career to this point and she's worked hard to achieve it."
Alverno opened up the game with a 9-4 lead and forced Lakeland to take a timeout at the 14-minute mark, but Lakeland answered with an 18-0 run over the next 7 minutes and never relinquished the lead the remainder of the game.

Junior Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) added 14 points for the Inferno, but shot only 3-of-11 from the floor. Senior Shataya McComb (Kingston, N.Y.) added eight points and snagged a career-high 15 rebounds to lead all rebounders.

Sophomore Kelsey Kochanowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) led the Inferno with five assists.

Alverno is next in action this Wednesday hosting Wisconsin Lutheran College in a NAC game at Reiman Gymnasium in Milwaukee. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
