Colby women's basketball tops Maine-Farmington

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College women's basketball started the day by moving into the top 20 in the new Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III national poll and ended it with a dominating 83-47 non-conference home opener win over University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules, ranked 20th in the latest poll, improved to 3-0 overall. The Beavers dropped to 0-3.

Colby had five players in double figures and had 25 team assists in opening up a 46-23 halftime bulge. Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) had 17 points and eight rebounds, Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) added a double-double in scoring and rebounding with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and point guard Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) had 13 points and three assists.

Jennifer Nale (Waterville/Waterville, Maine), playing her first collegiate game in her hometown, finished with three 3-points shots and added 11 points and three assists. Karlyn Adler (Rye Brook, N.Y.) had 10 points and three assists, while captain Jules Kowalski had a game-high four assists, six points, and six rebounds.

Colby finished with a 51-32 rebounding advantage in the game, though the teams were 20-20 at the end of the first half. The Mules had 25 offensive rebounds and took 80 shots in the game.

Colby led 9-7 about four minutes into the game and then used a 27-9 run to lead 36-16 with 5:27 to intermission.

Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) had 14 points and six rebounds to lead the Beavers, while Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) added 11 points.
