GREENVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 20) -- Hendrix College and Westminster College battled through 10 ties and 12 lead changes in the first half of their final game of the Greenville Tip-Off Classic Saturday morning at H.J. Long Gymnasium. The Titans earned the final lead exchange and would outlast the Warriors, 65-60.
Hendrix struggled from the field and shot just 29.4 percent from the field and 68.6 percent from the charity stripe. The Titans gained a lead they would not relinquish on a pair of free throws with 41 seconds left before the break, eventually taking a 36-32 advantage into the locker room.
Westminster bridged intermission with an 11-0 run. Hendrix eventually cut its deficit to three points on senior Christina Byler's (pictured) 3-pointer with 9:35 remaining, however, Westminster would not give in. Byler knocked down a jumper off an assist from junior Jordan Henderson to make it a two-point affair with 1:34 to go, however the Titans netted five unanswered points in the last minute to outlast the Warriors.
Byler led Hendrix with 15 points on 4-of-17 shooting. Junior Anna Roane added 12 points on three long balls. Henderson, junior Katy Ashley-Pauley and junior Caty Hensy led the team with six rebounds apiece.
The Warriors fall to 1-2 on the season and will look to bounce back when they host University of Dallas on Monday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. CT and then Rust College on Tuesday, Nov. 23. at 5 p.m.
