McKinnis Scores 20 (Again) In Payne's First Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. – Kelsey McKinnis posted her second 20-point game in as many tries this season to lead the Loggers to a decisive 74-45 victory on Friday over Oglethorpe. The victory gives head coach Loree Payne her first Logger win.

"I'm very proud of the girls. Their effort and energy tonight was phenomenal," said head coach Loree Payne. "They carried over what we worked on all week, went out there and go it done."

The Loggers came out a little cold out of the gates as Oglethorpe built a 15-11 lead over the first seven minutes. However, the Loggers responded with a 10-0 run over the net 3:41 to take the lead, and they never looked back. The Loggers shot 55 percent from he floor in the first half while holding Oglethorpe to a 28.6 percentage.

The Loggers continued to outshoot and outrebound Oglethorpe through the remainder of the game to continue building their lead. By halftime, the Loggers had built a 40-26 lead led by nine points from McKinnis and Jocelyn Riordan.

McKinnis continued on her hot streak, shooting 70 percent from the floor and hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the game. In the second half, McKinnis posted 11 points and hit all three of her three-point tries.

Sarah Stewart also had a big game for the Loggers with a double-double. She grabbed 13 rebounds, six on the offensive end, and scored 10 points. She led a rebound-hungry Logger team that grabbed 56 boards to Oglethorpe's 29 rebounds in the game.

The Loggers shot 44.1 percent from the floor in the game and hit a third of their three-pointers while holding Oglethorpe to 28.3 percent from the floor and 20 percent shooting beyond the arc.

The Loggers will look for win No. 2 tomorrow when they face Whittier College at 6 p.m. in the Pamplin Sports Complex.
