The Carthage College women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked ninth in the pre-season "D3hoops.com" poll, defeated Beloit College (0-1), 80-44, on Friday, Nov. 19 at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
The Lady Reds led from the opening tip and opened up a 14-point lead, 24-10, at 9:38. The lead went to 17 points, 36-19, at 1:34 first period, although the Buccaneers pulled to within 11, 36-25 at halftime, and to within nine points, 36-27, at the start of the second half. After that, it was all Carthage. The Lady Reds took off on a 20-2 run to put the game away with a 27-point lead at 10:40, 56-29. The margin ballooned to 39 points late in the game, and Carthage went on to win by 36, 80-44.
The Lady Reds shot 45 percent (26-58), while the Buccaneers shot just 32 percent (13-41), including just 28 percent (7-of-25) in the second half. Beloit also turned the ball over 32 times. Three of Carthage's five starters scored in double figures. Diana Jacklin (Jr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) had a game-high 18 points on six-of-eight field goals and six-of-seven free throws, along with a game-high eight rebounds. Cailee Corcoran (So., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) had 12 points and five boards, while Dani Ripkey (Jr., Deerfield, Ill.) chipped in 10 points.
Carthage plays its home-opener on Tuesday, Nov. 23 by entertaining Benedictine University (Ill.) in a 7:30 p.m. game at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
