Guiler Scores 32 in Marietta's Last-second Loss at Allegheny

MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) scored a career-best 32 points and four teammates reached double figures, but a last second shot helped host Allegheny (Pa.) College defeat Marietta College women's basketball 80-79 in its season opener Friday (Nov. 19) evening at the Allegheny Invitational. [Box Score]

Guiler, who shot 12-of-17 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line, also contributed 11 rebounds before fouling out with three minutes to play and the Pioneers trailing 74-73.

Marietta, who led by as many as 18 points early in the second half, regained the advantage 79-78 when junior Rachel Jones (Dublin/Coffman) hit 1-of-2 from the line with 24 seconds to play in the game. Erica Restich, however, tipped in a missed shot with one second on the clock to give the Gators a 80-79 win.

Senior Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier) matched Guiler with a double-double and finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. In addition, Jones pitched in with 11 points, four assists and three steals, while junior Lizz Wilson (Ashtabula/Edgewood) and freshman Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) both had 10 points in the loss.

Allegheny also had five players score in double figures. Jill Gregory and Heidi Goeller both led the way with 18 points. Laura Magnelli also finished with 13 points, Daryl Ford had 12 points and Britni Mohney added 11 points to go along with six assists.
