UW-La Crosse drops Edgewoood College

RIPON, Wis. – After their opening night home victory over Elmhurst College, the Edgewood College women's basketball team took to the road to take on UW-La Crosse at the Ripon College Tournament. The Eagles of UW-La Crosse jumped out early and never looked back, taking the contest 74-27.

UW-La Crosse (2-0) won the opening tap, came down the court and hit a jumper just eight seconds into the game. The Eagles' Taylor Larson and Melissa Lang nailed three straight three-point baskets to push the lead to 11-0.

Edgewood College (1-1) finally got on the board with 15:44 left in the first half when Alison Tobin made a layup.

The deficit swelled to 22-2 before Edgewood College's Danielle Dixon knocked down a jumper and Tobin hit another layup, making the deficit 24-6. Brittany Bylsma cut the deficit to 23 when she made a layup with just over five minutes to play.

UW-La Crosse closed the half on a 9-4 run to take a commanding 43-12 lead at intermission.
Dana Churchill came out and extended the lead out of halftime with a layup and free throw.

Dixon Sparked a quick 5-0 Eagle run with a free throw, Sadie Ewing hit jumper and Denay Hering made a jump shot of her own to end the run and cut the deficit to 59-24 with 8:23 remaining. Chantelle Vogt drained the Eagles' last basket when she sank a three-point shot with 6:30 left in the contest.

UW-La Crosse closed the game on a 12-0 run to take the game 74-27. Lang led all scorers with 12 points while Larson poured in 10 of her own. The Eagles shot 46.8 percent (29-for-62) from the floor and 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from three-point land.

Tobin and Melanie Walker each tallied six points to lead the Eagles. Edgewood College shot 22.2 percent (12-for-54) from the field and 4.8 percent (1-for-21) from three-point land, along with going 2-for-11 (18.2 percent) from the free throw line.

Edgewood College's 27 points is the lowest the Eagles have scored since 2001, when they fell to Maranatha Baptist. Also the 47 point margin is the fourth largest margin of defeat in Edgewood College history and largest since 2002, based on available Edgewood College records.

The Eagles will continue play at the Ripon College Tournament on Saturday when they play UW-Stout at 1:00 p.m.
