STEVENS POINT- Sophomore Josi Schultz tallied her first career double-double on Thursday evening as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team forced 28 turnovers and cruised to an 88-69 victory over Hamline University at Berg Gym.
The Pointers forced 28 turnovers and led by as many as 32 points at the start of the second half.
The Pointers opened the game strong and built an eight point lead just four minutes into the game, 15-7. After going back-and-forth with the Pipers for the next twelve minutes, the Pointers used a 7-0 run capped off by a Sam Barber three point field goal to go up by 18 with 4:02 to play in the opening half.
The Pointers closed out the half on a 9-0 run and took a 55-28 lead into the break. The Pointers forced 19 turnovers in the first half.
In the second half the Pointers built their lead up to 32 points when Britta Petersen hit a jumper with 15:41 to go in the game. The Pipers battled back to cut the lead to 15 with 2:03 to go, making the score 84-69.
The Pointers used four free throws, two each by Schultz and Alyssa Olp, to finish the game with an 88-69 win.
Schultz led four Pointers scoring in double figures with 17 points and added 12 rebounds. Barber, Petersen, and Ashley Averkamp also finished with double digit points for the Pointers and Andrea Flease led the team with four assists.
The Pointers (2-0) return to action next Tuesday, Nov. 30, when they host Millikin University at the Berg Gym. Game time is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
