No. 9 Carthage Opens with an 86-51 Win at Concordia (Wis.)

The Carthage College women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked ninth the pre-season "D3hoops.com" poll, opened its 2010-11 season on Tuesday, Nov. 16 with an 86-51 win over Concordia University (Wis., 0-1) at John Buuck Fieldhouse in Mequon, Wis. 

The Lady Reds led from the opening tip and opened up a 17-point lead, 29-12 at 6:21.  Carthage led by 17 points at the break, 33-16.  A 23-3 run to start the second half turned the game into a laugher, as the Lady Reds went up by 37 points, 56-19, at 14:29.  The lead went to 43 points, 68-25, at 11:28, and Carthage cruised to a 35-point victory, 86-51.

Carthage shot 56 percent (35-63), while Concordia (Wis.) shot just 35 percent (18-51).  Three Lady Reds scored in double figures.  Cailee Corcoran (So., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) had a game-high 20 points on nine-of-16 field goals and two-of-three free throws, along with five rebounds.  Kristi Schmidt (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-Community) came off the bench to score 12 points on five-of-seven shooting.  Dani Ripkey (Jr., Deerfield, Ill.) had 11 points, and Diana Jacklin (Jr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) had nine points and seven rebounds.  Tiffany Hendrickson topped the Falcons with 12 points, and Katie Luethe had 10 points and five boards. 

Carthage travels to Beloit, Wis., on Friday, Nov. 19 to play Beloit College in a 7 p.m. game at Flood Arena.
