Roanoke Men’s Basketball outlasts Lynchburg 96-92 in OT to reach ODAC Finals

The Short story: Sophomore guard Jackson Bell drilled a three-pointer with 18 seconds left on the clock to turn a one-point deficit into a two-point lead as the third-seeded Roanoke College men's basketball team outlasted the University of Lynchburg 96-92 in overtime in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Semifinals.

Trailing 92-91, senior guard Joshua McClary found Bell in the right corner for his go-ahead three-pointer. Following a Maroon stop on the defensive end, Joshua Morse sealed the game with two free throws with five seconds left.

The Maroons will face fifth-seeded Guilford College for the ODAC Title at 2 p.m. Sunday. It is RC's first finals appearance since the 2018 season and Roanoke is looking for its first ODAC title since the 2000 campaign. The Maroons, ranked No. 19 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, are 23-4 on the season. RC has won nine-straight games and 15 of the last 16 contests. The last time the program won 23 games was in the 1999-2000 season (24-5).

How it happened:  
*The Hornets scored the first four points of the game, but Roanoke netted the next nine.
*RC led 21-18 with nine minutes left in the half and used another 9-0 run to go ahead 30-18.
*The Maroons closed the half by scoring the final eight points to lead 45-30 at intermission. Patrick Clevenger posted 11 points and seven rebounds in the game's first 20 minutes and Roanoke shot a sizzling 54 percent (15-28) overall and 50 percent (6-12) from behind the three-point arc.
*Lynchburg came out of the half with a 25-10 surge to tie the game at the 11:55 mark.
*Michael Gray netted two free throws for the seventh-seeded Hornets to tie the game at 82 all with 30 seconds left in regulation, and Lynchburg got a stop on the defensive end to force overtime.

Inside the numbers:
*McClary finished with a team-high 23 points, eight assists and three blocks and also added six rebounds and two steals.
*Marcus Morgan shot 7-of-9 from the floor for 16 points to go with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
*Clevenger finished with 14 points and nine rebounds before fouling out in the second half.
*Morse contributed 14 points and four boards.
*Gavin O'Malley had nine points, four rebounds and two steals.
*Bell and Caleb Franze each scored eight.
*Gray scored 34 points for Lynchburg (14-13).
