THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg drained 11 first-half 3-pointers en route to a program-record 16 triples, building a 52-29 lead at the break before ultimately topping Dickinson 92-67 in the opening round of the 2025 Centennial Conference men's basketball tournament.
THE LEADERS
• Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammonton) led the third-seeded Bullets with 28 points, including going a career-best 5-for-5 from long range to lead the barrage from deep. He also chipped in four assists and two steals.
• Akim Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Notre Dame Fairfield [Conn.]) added four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points.
FOR THE FOES
• David Petrusev led the sixth-seeded Red Devils with 26 points and seven rebounds.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Nate Williams (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) started the night with a 3-pointer in the game's first minute and the hosts never trailed. Gettysburg opened up an eight-point lead twice before five straight points from Luis Ruiz closed the deficit to 16-13 with 14:00 to play. A Jordan Stafford pull-up jumper in the lane on the ensuing possession started a 10-0 run over just 2 minutes, 21 seconds to open up a 26-13 lead that did not dip into single digits the rest of the night. Leading 31-20, back-to-back Joseph 3-pointers ignited an 8-1 burst over just 1:43 to extend the lead to 21 with 3:57 showing. The lead grew to as large as 49-25 en route to the 23-point halftime lead.
• Dickinson scored the first five points of the second half but Stafford responded with five straight of his own. Up 71-49, a Stafford step-back with 7:33 showing started an 18-4 run over the next nearly four minutes. Ray Zamloot (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) capped the stretch with the record-breaking 3-pointer from the left corner. The Red Devils closed the game on 12-3 run for the 25-point final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Carl Schaller (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
• Aidan Mess (Brookeville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) added 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
• Nate Williams finished with 10 points and three helpers.
• With the win, Gettysburg reached the 20-win mark in a season for the first time since the 2007-08 season and advance to the conference semifinals for the fourth straight season.
