WASHINGTON, Pa. (February 15) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball was edged 78-76 by Washington & Jefferson after a late 15-0 run by the Presidents on Saturday afternoon.

Waynesburg falls to 7-16 on the season and 5-13 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. The Yellow Jackets are eliminated from PAC Tournament contention with the result. W&J rises to 18-6, 14-5 PAC.

The Jackets used a 17-0 run to turn a 63-58 deficit into a 75-63 lead with 3:33 remaining in regulation. Antone Baker (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) scored 11 points in the spurt. 

W&J answered with 15-0 run. The Presidents were fouled on a three-pointer and made all three foul shots and then sank two treys in the final 38 seconds to tie the game at 75 and to take a 78-75 lead. Waynesburg's Scott Bilovus (Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny) was fouled while attempting a game-tying three-pointer but missed the second foul shot and was forced to intentionally miss the third as the Presidents escaped with the win.

Waynesburg played one of its best opening halves of the season as the Jackets led for over 17 of the first 20 minutes and shot 52.6 percent from the field. Waynesburg had three separate spurts of at least seven-straight points to build a 30-15 lead with seven minutes to play in the first half.

W&J made four threes in a 16-2 response that narrowed the margin to 32-31 Jackets with four minutes left the half. Waynesburg scored 13 of the last 18 points of the period to carry a 45-36 advantage into halftime.

The Jackets led by as many as nine points (49-40) early in the second half before the score narrowed ahead of Waynesburg's 17-0 burst.

Baker finished with 25 points and a dozen rebounds. Jaylen Davis (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) had 16 points and seven rebounds. Four other players had six points.

The Jackets outrebounded the Presidents 42-38 and had a 52-34 advantage in points in the paint.

Waynesburg takes on Franciscan in Ohio on Wednesday.
