LONGVIEW, Texas -- Deonte Jackson dropped a career-high 40 points, Teigan Edwards had a career-best nine assists, and LeTourneau set a program record for 3-pointers made (20) as they blitzed UMHB by a score of 102-81.
Jackson's 40 points broke his previous career-high of 39, which he set last season against McMurry. This was the first 40-plus point game by a YellowJacket since Nate West scored 51 on March 3, 2020 against Whitworth. With his output, he now currently ranks first in career scoring in all of Division III, passing Mount Union's Christian Parker.
Edwards was dishing the ball well all night long, and the offense did its job, hitting a program-record 20 threes, which broke the previous record of 19 in 2020 against UMHB. They also had 29 assists as a team on the evening, the most in a game since they had 30 on January 18, 2018 against Belhaven.
The YellowJackets never trailed in this game, and got started on the right foot early in the first half. Their first seven field goals were all threes, as they led 21-12 with 11:54 to play in the first half. Jackson, Caedmon Liebengood, and Connor Miller each hit two triples in this stretch.
After a trio of layups by Jackson Mayes, Branson Lynn, and Logan Brinkoeter extended the lead to 21, Jackson hit his fourth and fifth threes of the half to keep the lead around that mark.
LeTourneau would close the half with a last-second layup from Walker Blaine to go up 20 at the break.
The Cru never got close in the second half, as the scoring blitz continued. Jackson poured in 12 more points to push the lead back gto 20 with 12:17 to go, and then another seven point burst, capped off by a pair of free throws, gave him 40.
The lead got as high as 27 after an Edwards triple, and then Lynn's final triple of the game with 2:57 to play set the new program record of 20 made 3-pointers.
The YellowJackets shot 50 percent (20-of-40) from downtown, and 52.9 percent (36-of-68) overall.
Liebengood (15), Brinkoeter (11), and Lynn (10) added double-figure scoring outputs, with Edwards swatting two shots and Jackson recording a pair of steals on the defensive end.
The Crusaders had Eli Beard go for 32 points, with Maurice Pinnock scoring 12. Ryan Pondant grabbed 12 boards and Josh Goings contributed a team-high three assists.
The YellowJackets face UT Dallas on Saturday for Senior Day at 4 p.m. The ceremony will be after the women's game concludes.
