William Paterson Men's Basketball Claims 66-55 Home Win Versus New Jersey City

WAYNE, N.J. – Seniors David Martinez and Neftali Valentin combined for 40 points as the William Paterson men's basketball team (6-16, 2-13 NJAC) earned a 66-55 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win against New Jersey City (12-10, 7-8 NJAC) Feb. 8 at the Sports and Recreation Center.   
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers and Gothic Knights were even at 25-25 with 19:50 remaining in the game before WP went on a 13-3 run to grab a 10-point lead (38-28).
  • New Jersey City trimmed the deficit to four (47-43) with 9:17 on the clock, but WP responded with a 12-5 run to push the advantage back to double figures (59-48).
  • The Pioneers prevented any further damage and held on for the 66-55 home victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Martinez had 20 points on 7-of-12 (.583) shooting with five rebounds.
  • Valentin shot 6-for-11 (.545) from the field for 20 points to go with three boards and four assists.
  • Senior Andre Wells finished with 14 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals.
