Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team overcame a nine-point deficit in the second half to defeat NJAC rival Rowan University, 92-85. The Roadrunners (16-6, 10-5 NJAC) win their second straight while head coach Chuck McBreen earned his 450th career coaching victory. The Profs drop to 12-10 overall and 9-6 in the league.
Rowan took a 46-38 lead into the locker room at halftime before Ramapo cut the lead to just one with 13:05 on the clock on a basket from Braden Moore. Rowan would stretch the lead back out to nine with a 13-3 run. Ramapo would counter off Rowan's mini runs while the Profs sank a three-pointer from Brycen Williams with 7:12 on the clock, 81-74. Tyrell Murchison scored two for the Roadrunners to spark an 18-4 run to finish the game. An and-one play from Peter Gorman and back-to-back baskets from Shane Rooney would give Ramapo an 83-81 lead with 5:31 on the clock. Dan Mason scored for the Profs to tie the game once again at 83 before Logan Smith sank a key three-pointer as Ramapo took the lead for good, 86-83. Rowan answered with a basket of their own before Smith sank a pair of free throws, 88-85. Jordan Myers pulled down a defensive rebound as the Roadrunners pushed the ball up the court on a fast break allowing Rooney to put down a dunk. Myers sank a pair of free throws from the line with 13 second remaining as they came away with the key NJAC victory, 92-85.
Rooney posted a career high 25 points as he finished 10-13 from the floor and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also collected eight rebounds two assisted and a steal. Gorman finished the game with 23 points including two made three-pointers. Myers added a double double of ten points and 12 rebounds while Murchison contributed with nine points off the bench along with four assists, two rebounds and one steal. Ramapo recorded seven three-pointers in the game while they scored 48 points in the paint. The Roadrunners shot 47% (34-72) from the floor in the game, 46% (7-15) from the three-point line and 81% (17-21) from the free throw line.
For Rowan, Taz Chantey led the way with 20 points while Dan Mason posted 19 points including three made three-pointers. Danny Flemming and Tyrese Myrick each contributed with 12 points while Williams added 11. The Prods shot 44% (30-67) from the field, 38% (10-26) from the three-point line and 83% (15-18) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 12th when they travel to Rutgers-Newark University for a NJAC game scheduled for 8:00 PM.
