HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges started strong, leading for most of the first half thanks to a hot hand from Harris.
  • After being held to just 12 points in the team's loss to WashU a week ago, Harris shot 8-for-11 in the first, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 1-of-1 from the line to finish with 20 points. He also distributed three assists in the first half.
  • Brandeis closed the half on a 7-2 run, including five points from Harris on a traditional three-point play and a jumper, in addition to a steal and layup by first-year Alex Zakheim (Bergenfield, N.J./Perkiomen, Pa.), that helped the hosts take a 42-33 lead into the locker room.
  • WashU was paced by Hayden Doyle, who scored 15 first-half points.
  • After Rodl scored the first points of the second half, the Bears caught fire on offense. WashU hit 11 of its first 13 points, including all eight of their 3-pointers, as the visitors went on a 30-12 run.
  • Will Grudzinski netted a 3-pointer with 11:30 remaining, giving him 12 points in the run and the Bears their largest lead of the game at seven points, 63-56.
  • Brandeis's defense picked up after that, as they allowed the visitors to hit just 3 of their last 17 shots and 2 of their last 10 from 3-point range.
  • Rodl scored nine of his 20 second-half points during the decisive run, including a lay-up on a feed from Harris that gave the Judges the lead for good, 70-68, with 4:16 left.
  • Brandeis was ahead, 79-70 with 2:01 to go after a pair of Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass./St. George's School) free throws.
  • The WashU press allowed the Bears to close within four points after pair of free throws with 1:13 to go made if 80-76, but an inbounds play led to a dunk by Rodl, helping make it a two-possession game with 33 seconds left and the Judges held on from there.
