Roanoke Men roll to 78-53 win over Guilford

The Short story: The Roanoke men's basketball team rolled to a 78-53 win over visiting Guilford College Wednesday night in a battle of two of the top teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

Both teams received votes in the D3hoops.com top 25 poll this week. With the victory, the Maroons gain sole possession of third place in the conference standings at 10-2, while the Quakers fall into a tie for fourth at 9-3.

How it happened:  
*Guilford opened a 15-13 lead, but a 10-0 Maroon run gave RC a 23-15 advantage midway through the first half. Roanoke had a 7-0 surge later in the half and took a 39-28 edge into halftime.
*Clayton Gaither nailed all three of his first-half three-point attempts for nine points and Marcus Morgan had six points, five rebounds and three assists in the game's first 20 minutes.
*The Maroons led by double figures the entire second half and went up 20 after an 8-0 run with 7:33 remaining.

Inside the numbers:
*Morgan narrowly missed a triple double with eight points, a game-high 10 rebounds and nine assists.
*Jackson Bell nailed 4-of-5 from distance and finished with 19 points, one shy of his career best.
*Joshua McClary posted 15 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
*Porter Stanley tied his career high with 12 points with six rebounds and Gavin O'Malley had seven points, seven rebounds and two blocks in just 16 minutes of action.
For the game Roanoke shot 54 percent (30-56) and 46 percent (12-26) from three-point range, compared to just 31 percent (21-68) from the floor and 28 percent (8-29) from beyond the three-point arc for Guilford.
*Caleb Farrish netted a game-high 22 points with six rebounds for the Quakers (16-5/9-3).
