GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Blazers travel to the line almost 50 times and control the boards as three players are just short of a double-double to handle the Messiah Falcons 93-83 on Saturday night on the road.
Inside the Box Score
Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) scored 28 points including four three-pointers and eight rebounds.
Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale) dropped 20 points with 5 assists and grabbed nine boards.
Jude Huseby (Frederick, Md./Urbana) had 10 points with eight rebounds of his own.
How it Happened
The Blazers have rode the hot hand and the "Let it Fly" mentality all of conference play, but tonight the clip is not what kept them flying high against the Falcons.
Cox played at the beat of his own drum, dropping a couple threes and using his size to show dominance in the lane. Jevon Yarbrough (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) was the contributor early with his spark around the arc and to score when others were on the down.
Hood capitalized on being first to the ball and extending their own possessions while shortening Messiah's. This became irritating to the Falcons and a lot of contact turned into foul trouble. Early fouls put the Blazers on the line and the 80 percent conversion and 14 made kept the Blazers out of what could be a trap game.
Not the best basketball for Hood, but nonetheless close basketball up until the half.
Scoring had slowed for both sides, but buckets inside the paint from Huseby and a three by Will Spencer (Davidsonville, Md./Boys' Latin School) had reopened the offense. The foul trouble continued for the Falcons as the field goal percentage took a lull, the Blazers were put to the line and started to put them down and in.
Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale) slowly made his way into the scoresheet, scoring his final 14 points in the second half. His legs looked fresher in the opposition, almost like he waited for the right time to turn the heat up and start to test the lane.
What had started as a close game, now crept away from Messiah as their own ailments in foul trouble and fatigue could not keep pace with the Blazers.
"Thought we played great in the second half and really took control of the pace," said head coach Chad Dickman. "We were outstanding on the glass all game and that's a huge reason we won. Excited to get back to work—big one on Wednesday vs Albright."
