Senior guard Henry Hinkle, senior guard Ryan Smudz, and fifth-year post Tony Carter connected on 3-pointers during a 14-2 run that opened up a double-digit lead, and Ohio Wesleyan went on to a 78-64 North Coast Atlantic Conference win over Oberlin on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Carter tallied a lay-in and a 3-pointer as Ohio Wesleyan turned a 46-45 lead into a 51-45 advantage midway through the second half, but Oberlin surrounded a Hinkle jumper with 3-pointers from Will Bousquette and Zach Smith to pull within 53-51 with 12:55 left in regulation time.

Hinkle answered with a 3-pointer on the Bishops' ensuing possession, and after freshman wing Jake Lowman knocked down a jumper, Smudz fielded a pass from Lowman and buried a 3-pointer to stretch the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 61-51 with 10:31 to play.

J.J. Gray sank a pair of free throws to bring the Yeomen within 61-53, but Carter drilled a 3-pointer, then fed Hinkle for what turned into a 3-point play for a 67-53 lead with 6:37 to go, and the lead would remain in double digits for the remainder of the contest.

Oberlin had led by as many as 6 points, getting consecutive 3-pointers from Smith to break a 10-10 tie and take a 16-10 lead.  Lowman countered with 7 straight points for a 20-19 Ohio Wesleyan lead midway through the period, and on only one occasion during the remainder of the half would there be a lead of more than 3 points.  The back-and-forth play continued to open the second half, with only one lead of more than 3 points during the first 6-plus minutes until Carter's 3-pointer made it 51-45.

Hinkle led the Bishops with 17 points and shared the team lead with 4 assists.  The 4 assists raised his career total to an even 300, moving him into 10th place on the Ohio Wesleyan career list, passing Rob Alberts, who recorded 297 assists from 1978-82.

Lowman finished with a season-high 15 points, Carter added 14 points, senior post Phil Wallace had 13 points and a team-high 7 boards, and junior wing Jessee Battle shared the team lead with 4 assists.
