Hood catches fire in launchfest against Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Blazers knock down 22 three-pointers in a game led by Troy Fulton (Denver, N.C./Lincoln Charter School) with his nine while Karron Mallory (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) puts down seven himself in a 61-point second half and a 94-78 win over Alvernia on Wednesday night.

Inside the Box Score

Fulton off the bench scored his career-high 27 points and his 9-for-14 mark ranks second all-time in single-game deep ball performances.

Karron Mallory (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) scored his 21 at a 70-percent clip from three.

Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) scored 15 points while pulling down nine boards.

How it Happened

Early in the first, nothing was really dropping for the Blazers. The Golden Wolves looked comfortable on their own turf against their formidable opponent and took advantage of turnovers in the 15-5 run.

Fulton's first time on the floor came around and hit his first three right from where he received it about 30'. Mallory later hit his first from right behind the NCAA logo and then on the ensuing possession hit another right in front of the Alvernia bench to go up 17-15.

Hood was bailed out from their turnovers with their success from beyond the arc not having to live or die by the paint as they did in the win over York Pa. in the previous week. Alvernia netted seven three's of their own and left Hood trailing by three at the half.

Back at it again in the second half, the ball entering the paint was not necessary as Hood opened with the ball swung around the top of the key to the corner and yet another Mallory three. The Golden Wolves wanted to test the fire and play offense as they responded with a three of their own.

At the time it seemed they could keep up with the "Let it Fly" crew, but Hood put the gas to the floor. As the teams traded long baskets, Alvernia's Jakob Kelly was left to keep the hot hand while Hood distributed the ball to the likes of Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale) and Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) to support their biggest shooters.

That support created a 10-point lead, but Fulton and Mallory drowned the Golden Wolves and the 66-percent clip became too hot to handle an the Blazers ran away.

"Thought we adjusted well in the second half and started making better reads and decisions, and consequently, got a ton of open looks. Always helps to shoot the ball well, and we're not going to lose if we're hot from 3," said head coach Chad Dickman

"Got a really nice shot in the arm from Troy Fulton (Denver, N.C./Lincoln Charter School). He can catch fire quickly, but thought he also brought in defensively as well."

For the Opponent

Jakob Kelly dropped 23 points and grabbed eight boards with five assists.

Analysis

65 percent of the shots taken in the game between both teams were from three.
